Privacy Policy - EyeGuard

EyeGuard is a utility app that helps you maintain a safe distance between your eyes and your screen, and alerts you when your device's tilt angle is not ergonomically appropriate. Protecting your privacy is fundamental to how we built this app.

1. Camera Usage

EyeGuard uses your device's front camera solely to measure the real-time distance between your face and the screen. Specifically:

• The camera is used only for face detection and distance estimation — no photos or video are ever taken, saved, or recorded.
• All face detection and distance calculations are performed on-device using the device's local processing capabilities.
• No camera images or facial data are transmitted to any server, cloud service, or third party.
• Camera access is active only while the protection feature is enabled; it stops immediately when you turn off protection.

2. Motion Sensor Usage

EyeGuard reads your device's accelerometer and gyroscope sensors to measure the screen tilt angle in real time.

• Sensor data is used only to determine whether your current holding angle is within the configured safe range.
• No sensor data is stored persistently or transmitted externally.

3. Local Storage

The only data EyeGuard saves is your personal configuration, stored locally on your device:

• Minimum and maximum safe distance thresholds (e.g., 30 cm – 70 cm)
• Minimum and maximum safe tilt angle range (e.g., 30° – 75°)
• Preferred alert types (visual overlay, notification, sound, voice)
• Selected operating mode (Foreground / Background)
• Onboarding completion status

This data never leaves your device and can be cleared at any time by uninstalling the app.

4. Permissions Explained

EyeGuard requests the following system permissions:

• Camera: Required to detect your face and measure screen distance. Used only for this purpose.
• Notifications: Required to send alert notifications when a distance or angle violation is detected.
• Display Over Other Apps (Android): Required to show a warning overlay while you use other apps (e.g., YouTube, a browser). No data is collected via this permission.
• Foreground Service (Android): Required to keep the protection active while you use other apps. A persistent notification is shown while this service runs, as required by Android.
• Ignore Battery Optimizations (Android, optional): May be requested to prevent the system from stopping the protection service on devices with aggressive battery management.

5. No Accounts, No Analytics

EyeGuard does not require you to create an account or log in. The app does not include any advertising SDKs, analytics libraries, or crash-reporting tools that transmit personal data to third parties.

6. Children's Privacy

EyeGuard is designed to be safe for all ages, including children. Because the app collects no personal data and performs all processing on-device, it does not pose privacy risks for children. Parents are encouraged to configure the app with appropriate distance and angle settings for their children's usage habits.

7. iOS Limitations

On iOS, due to operating system restrictions, the app cannot access the camera or show overlays while running in the background. The protection feature on iOS is available only while the app is open and in the foreground. No additional data is collected as a result of these limitations.

8. Data Security

Because EyeGuard stores no personal data on servers and transmits nothing externally, the risk surface for data breaches is minimal. Your configuration is held in standard app local storage on your device, protected by your device's built-in security (lock screen, device encryption).

9. Policy Updates

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. For significant changes, we will notify you via an in-app message on next launch.
